Loaded Dice – Are playing dice that have been altered as to make them more predictable in regards to the side in which they come to a rest after being thrown into play. There are several manners in which they can be altered, but in most cases they are detectable and illegal to use.
The materials used to manufacture the dice are the deciding factor in how it is altered in order to offer the advantage to the user. In some cases mercury, or lead is used internally as to offset the weight in the die causing it to rest on a specified side. In other cases the die itself has been altered by slightly shaving down one side changing the weight differential, as well as causing it to be uneven, or convex and thus less likely to stop to rest on the altered side. Even dice impregnated with magnets along with coiled wire concealed within the table have been used to load dice. Casinos have chosen to use acetate dice that are clear and therefore less susceptible to tampering.
